Explore the hillsides and the valley by bike around Montignac, a village made famous by the discovery in 1940 of the Lascaux cave.

Semi-urban walk that will take you in the footsteps of the inventors of Lascaux, from the charming village of Montignac to the hill where the famous prehistoric cave of Lascaux was found in 1940. The cave is known for its wall paintings of animals from over 17,000 years. The cave has been closed since 1963, but it is possible to see a reconstruction of it in the International Center for Parietal Art.

This hike takes you from Montignac to Terrasson-Lavilledieu via the GR®461. Along the way you will pass by the international center of Lascaux, the Lascaux cave, the Régourdou excavations in the Parc à Ours, the hamlets of Les Combes, Claveillère, Saint-Amand-de-Coly, Asplats, Mortefond, Biat and Coly.

From Montignac-Lascaux, famous for its cave of the same name, you will walk on small country roads passing by the superb viewpoint of Escaleyrou in Aubas. You will cross Condat sur Vézère, a former Templar village before reaching Terrasson, the garden town of the valley. On the return, you will cycle through the Coly valley passing Saint Amand de Coly where you will not miss the imposing Cistercian abbey.
