The trailhead is located at the base of the mountain, and during the winter the gate beyond the trailhead is closed, restricting road traffic. A second gate on the trail is closed year-round, and there are no real good places to park there, so it's suggested you park down by the gate. The entire hike is along a forestry road and leads up to the very top of Pather Top (a.k.a. Panther Knob). This is a great little trail with stoping points and rest benches with beautiful views of the lake. A few steady inclines on the Orange Trail but it is shaded. There are also quite a few spots to jump in the water for a swim if you desire! Everyone should bring water on this hike and if you plan on jumping in the water at the lake bring a towel!

This paved trail is good for families. The trail crosses over Chatuge Dam and offers fantastic views of Chatuge Lake and the surrounding mountains. Accessibility: There is 1 designated accessible space in the paved parking lot off of Chatuge Dam Road at the northeast end of the trail. It is van-accessible with a striped access aisle.
