The hike begins jointly with Hells Hollow Trail at the Hells Hollow parking lot. The Gorge Trail splits off just before the second footbridge. The trail begins with the Slippery Rock Gorge Trail. Slippery Rock Gorge Trail begins jointly with Hells Hollow Trail from the Hells Hollow Parking Lot. The trail splits off just before the second footbridge. The trail travels along the creek leading to Hells Hollow Falls. The area can be busy on the weekends, so an early start is recommended.

Alpha Pass: blue blazes. This trail is at the northern end of McConnells Mill State Park and is part of the North Country National Scenic Trail. This trail begins at the Alpha Pass scenic vista and follows the east bank of Slippery Rock Creek. There is an exit to the Point Parking Area or the trail follows the creek to the Old Mill.

This trail is a combination of the Alpha Pass Trail at the northern end of the park that follows the creek to the Old Mill. After the Old Mill the Kildoo Trail makes up the McConnell's Mill State Park Trail.
