This trail starts in Oberriet at the train station and follows along paved roads through nature. It follows the path to Eichberg and then comes very close to the Wichtenstein castle ruins and past the ruins at the lake. Shortly thereafter, one ends the circular route again at the train station. This trail can be a bit muddy after a few bad weather days.

A fantastic mountain bike tour from Oberriet in the canton of Sankt Gallen to the Fählensee in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. The path begins at the Oberriet train station and leads on paved roads and through a beautiful forest to the Montlinger Schwamm mountain inn (1135 m). From the Inneralp (1209 m), it continues on forest roads and sometimes very narrow mountain paths, through an idyllic mountain landscape to the Sämtisersee (1207 m) and on to the Fählensee (1447 m). The trail starts in Oberriet at the train station or further up the Kobelwald forest. The path winds its way through the forest past the culinary highlight, the kitchen of the Montlinger Schwamm hut at 1135 m where there is also accommodation. Then the route continues through open terrain above the Ober Kamor at 1534m until it finally reaches the top of the Hoher Kasten at 1795m. A great experience. This short circular route begins at lake Wichenstein. First it circles around the lake before moving into the forest and straight towards the Wichenstein ruins. These are the remains of a cave castle. Unfortunately, today only a thick front wall is left where one can also enter the ruins through a gap in the wall. Then it goes a bit through the forest until it leads back to the lake.
