This trail is full of stunning views of the surrounding desert landscape at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. This is one of the best shorter hikes to do in the area, and therefore is extremely popular and can be crowded. There is no shade along the way and the trail is completely exposed to the sun therefore it is recommended to bring plenty of water and proper sun protection.
Activities
Features
While the Kiowa trail is nice and easy, the Upper Comanche can be a little tougher. One of the main highlights of this route is walking along the short red cliffs before it hits the Upper Comanche Trail near Hackberry Campground. Hunting is allowed in the area seasonally so hikers should wear blaze orange and remain on the trail during hunting season.

This route features a straightforward climb up Goodnight Peak. Once at the top, the views of the canyon are fantastic! Prickly pear cactus is among the unique species of plant you may see on the trail. The off line map is recommended to get oriented as several users have reported that this trail is not well marked and/or that there may be poor cell reception in this area.
