The Old Sugarlands Trail was the original first paved road to Newfound Gap. Before the road was paved it was a wagon road through the center of the Sugarlands Community. A quarry near the trail was used to build the first paved roads over the mountains. The first 1.5 miles are narrow and flat. This trail takes visitors through the old Sugarlands community of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There are several rock walls that used to mark garden areas and property lines, etc. At about 1.4 miles in you come upon the Old Civilian Conservation Corp Camp with the old clock tower at the camp parade grounds.
