Grassy path that leads to a view of the Nishnabotna River rock cut and rapids. Park just north of the entrance to Cold Springs State Park in a grassy area. The trail starts at a gate near the parking space. The walk is shady and enjoyable with birds chirping. At the end of the trail, the view overlooks the Nishnabotna River where some rocks cross the river and cause rapids. DO NOT ENTER THE RIVER. The Hitchcock House Nature Trail is an out-and-back grass path that is mowed, and measures about 0.8 miles one way, or 1.5 miles both ways. The starting point is just east of the historic Hitchock House and the trail ends above the Nishnabotna River. The path is fairly level and easy. There are quite a few thorny Honey Locust trees along the trail and a bench near the beginning and one at the end of the trail.
