Kishwaukee Gorge Forest Preserve (North) offers a hiker’s paradise of diverse woodlands, prairie openings, and rugged ravines. This preserve is home to a restored prairie, deep forest with large, statuesque twisted oak trees, and steep-sided gorges leading down to a peaceful opening on the Kishwaukee River. The trail becomes a bit challenging when climbing down and up the fifty or so steep, man-made steps along the side of the gorge that leads to its bottom, and the Kishwaukee River.

This paved route is cleared of snow in the winter to allow for year-round recreation for hikers and bikers. Accessibility: This asphalt trail is estimated to typically be at least 6 feet wide. The slope is estimated to be mostly gentle (5% grade or less) except for two very steep (over 12% grade) downhill sections located at about the 2.5 and 2.7 mile marks. Trail goers using mobility equipment like a wheelchair or a stroller may need additional assistance in these areas or need to avoid...
