This hike begins north-east of Royat and is located in the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park. It takes the Chemin des Crêtes, along the Maar de Villars (which is 715m above sea level), as well as the Bois de Villars. The name "maar" is attributed to volcanic structures resulting from large-scale explosive volcanism. The maars evolve either in lakes, or in narses sometimes resembling a plain, such as the maar of Villars.
