This hike starts at Tumanyan's beautiful town square, with sweeping views of the Debed Canyon and with Kobayr Monastery visible on the cliffs to the north. From this starting point, you quickly head down near the river, then over the picturesque Avanakar rock, then down along a massive derelict Soviet high temperature ceramics factory, and over the southern district of Tumanyan to the union of the Marts and Debed rivers. This trail is a favorite for the locals and have been taking people from the town of Tumanyan to Alaverdi for many years. It still serves as a primary route for shepherds and hikers today. The trail ascends from the town up over the mountains, providing sweeping views of Debed Canyon. From there it drops back down to the Debed River and takes you to the southern outskirts of Alaverdi, where you can connect to transport, or hike on to Odzun, Sanahin or other directions.

Overview This hike can either be completed in one eight hour day or split into two four hour days; for the two-day option, you can stay the night in nearby mountain huts (1,900m above sea level). The hike is 18.6 km long, and passes through water springs and resorts as it leads to the Jukhtak Monastery.
