South of Schoonloo is Boswachterij Schoonloo. A beautiful area filled with various forests, lakes and moors. This Groene Wissel, starting from the bus stop in Schoonloo, takes you through this varied nature reserve. You walk along the famous Pieterpad for a while. You will also visit the heathland with a number of beautiful fens in the middle. There is a restaurant in Schoonloo, otherwise you will not come across any catering establishments along the way.

Walking route Rondje Tweelingen is a walking route of Staatsbosbeheer through the forests of Schoonloo. A varied route, where you walk from beech forests to pine forests and vast moors with water pools in the middle. The walking route is marked with yellow posts. You will not come across any catering establishments along the way.

The Wolvenspoor is an adventurous walking route through dark forests, over wooden bridges and through stream valleys. The walk runs through different types of forests and you will pass all kinds of flora and fauna. Plank paths take you over the swamps and special bridges help you across the ditch, but this is no guarantee for dry feet at the end of the tour. The route is marked with a white wolf's foot print, although the mark is occasionally missing.

The Veenpluisroute is a red pole walk from Staatsbosbeheer through Boswachterij Grolloo. Many hikers call this an absolutely breathtakingly beautiful circular walk. Enjoying the woods you visit the fens located in the heart of Drenthe. Winding paths take you deeper into the woods, where you have an increasing chance of seeing wildlife. The route also takes you over a wooden decking path where you enjoy beautiful views over the fens and moors.
