This is a convenient urban trail along the river with plenty of views of old bridges, nature, and places to relax. The route follows multi-use trails that are wide and are mostly made of hard pack gravel. There are some trees, but there is no tree canopy, so folks should dress for whatever elements come their way. The West side of the river is nicer during winter, spring, and fall since this section will be more dry.

The first segment follows Glendale Avenue in downtown Thorold to Tremont Drive. There is also parking available along Tremont Drive so you could choose to begin there to cut down on the road sections. The Bruce Trail is very well-maintained with clear, painted signage along its length. There are many muddy sections between the fall and the spring, so bringing water-resistant footwear is recommended.

This is one of the local favourite hikes, and has a ton of Canadian history associated with it. There are a few beautiful waterfalls to view, and hikers who come here highly recommend wearing sturdy shoes. Most of the trail, especially beside the water, is rocky and requires some climbing. Bring water shoes if you want to swim the main waterfall during the summer!
