This trail is route 279 of the Groene Wissel walking routes. You start in Stadskanaal, with a lot of new construction but also a lot of green. Through parks and along the Musselkanaal you enter the young Vledderbos, where the walk takes you over winding grass paths and along a large forest pond. From here you enter the forests of the Het Page-Dal recreation area and through water-rich parks back to Stadskanaal.

Walk from Stadskanaal through typical Drenthe villages to Ter Apel. The banks along the canal are green, you pass the locks and walk through the countryside.

Nice loop through the Vledderbos, the small forest located between Stadskanaal and Vledderveen. You enter the forest via De Rode Loper, an impressive red bridge over the canal. In the forest itself you walk on an alternation of wide avenues and narrow winding paths. The route leads around the ponds in the middle of the forest. Next to the canal is a bird hide.
