This loop follows the Paine Run, Trayfoot Mountain, and Appalachian Trail creating a loop passing over the top of Trayfoot Mountain and Blackrock. You will also hike along Paine Run at points. The summit of Blackrock is the highlight of the loop. The rocky summit offers outstanding views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.

Start at the Turk Mountain Parking Area (mile 94.1 on Skyline Drive). Take the Appalachian Trail south until you reach the trailpost. At that point you will merge onto the Turk Mountain Trail. This trail heads downhill and ends at the junction with the South Fork Moormans River Road. There are several spots to stop along Turk Branch.

The summit of Scott Mountain is private. Please respect the property owners request and stay on the Appalachian Trail when using this route. This hike starts at Rockfish Gap off the Blue Ridge Parkway and hikes north on the Appalachian Trail to McCormick Gap. To head back to the trailhead, retrace foot steps back to Rockfish Gap.

The trailhead is accessible on the opposite side of Skyline Drive from the parking area. You will begin following the Appalachian Trail before detouring off onto the Turk Mountain Trail. This heads uphill leading to the rocky summit of Turk Mountain. From this point there is a nice viewpoint of the Shenandoah Valley.
