The 1-mile trail (including 700 feet of wheelchair-accessible boardwalk) at Herrick Fen Nature Preserve showcases the unique geologic, hydrologic, biologic and physical features of the fen formed during the last ice age. The boardwalk features seeps and fen plants, including bayberry, a shrub found in only two other nearby locations in Ohio, and the round-leaved sundew, a tiny carnivorous plant that inconspicuously grows on sphagnum moss.

The Osprey Loop at Trail Lake Park is a brand-new paved path that goes around Trail Lake. This is a brand-new park in the Portage Park District. There's not too much elevation change on this path, which makes this a fairly easy way to walk around the lake.
