Great day hike off the TRT to the Spur Trail Viewpoint (Picnic Rock) often thought of as the best views for the least amount of work. This paved trail begins in Nevada and ends in California at an old fire lookout with beautiful views of the Lake and mountains. You will need to park on the side of the road. The trail starts by a gate, but you cannot park there. Although this trail is paved, it is steep with a grade of 8% to 12% for much of the trail so it is not considered wheelchair or stroller friendly.

The entire trailhead area is designated as no parking and is an important fire lane for the fire department to reach the trailhead area in case of red flag days and fires. With an increase in tourism in Tahoe the Shirley Canyon Trailhead has become incredibly popular and cars regularly double and triple park.
