Hike uphill through the forest to a rocky ledge with an incredible view of the area. Additional parking is available at the Flume Trailhead. Activities
Features
Hike from Route 86 near the Ausable Rivera and The Flume Falls to the Flume Knob. The hike is mostly an uphill climb with the steepest sections of the trail being by the knob as you approach the top. Some sections of the trail are quite rocky, so shoes with good traction are recommended. Pack a lunch to enjoy from the viewpoint up top!
Activities
Features
The first half is mostly groomed trail and is level with a few inclines. Approaching the midway point brings less of a groomed trail and the inclines are steady and get the blood flowing. The trail crosses a lot at Whiteface Mountain Ski Center at one point. The Flume Falls are beautiful and right near the trailhead.

This route to Mount Esther begins from the Research Center Lot. If you're feeling up for it, you can continue on to Whiteface Mountain. The first mile has the steepest sections of trail before you hike over more gentle terrain leading to the top. The trail is often muddy spring through early summer.
