The trail starts at the Riffelberg station and leads through open countryside. At the foot of the Riffelhorn at 2927m one continues hiking and then reaches the small picturesque Riffellake. A few kilometers later one reaches the Gornergrat ridge at 3118m. It is a terrain, partly rocky, without much shelter, where you are exposed to the sun, especially in summer. So please don't forget to bring adequate sun protection and water.
