This trail network is popular with a number of user groups, but is probably most popular with mountain bikers in the summer months. There are trails here for every ability level mountain biker. Overall, a great place to walk dogs and spend a few hours enjoying the quiet and peaceful woods of the White Mountains.

The South Moat Mountain Trail is a consistent climb to the peak of South Mout Mountain. Hikers will be faced with a steady climb right up until they meet the summit where they will be treated to sweeping views. Users have reported the parking area fits 20-25 cars, so it is not uncommon for the parking area to be full early in the morning on a nice weekend.

Visitors can expect 360-degree views from the summit of both South and Middle Moat Mountain. The first 1 1/2 miles is relatively flat before another 1 1/2 mile climb up the Moats. Much of the trail is made of exposed granite which can be very slippery. It is not recommended to hike to the summit following any rain.

The first mile of the trail is a nice soft surface before it turns into more typical White Mountain terrain with rocks and roots. Eventually, the trail turns to granite slabs marked by cairns and yellow blazes. From the summits hikers will find 360-degree views. This is a hike that should only be done in dry conditions, the slabs and ledges can be very difficult to walk on when wet.
