This trail in Harpers Ferry National Historical Park will take you on a historical journey through the footsteps of the past. In 1894, Washington, D.C. journalist Kate Field, who had a keen interest in preserving memorabilia of John Brown, spearheaded a campaign to return the fort to Harpers Ferry. Local resident Alexander Murphy made five acres available to Miss Field, and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad offered to ship the disassembled fort to Harpers Ferry free of charge. In 1895, John...

Starting from the visitor center, this trail heads towards the Murphy-Chambers Farm and passes through fields surrounding the property. On the trail, visitors will see cannons and earthworks from the Civil War. After returning to the parking lot, continue down stone stair steps on the Lower Town Trail passing by several small seasonal waterfalls. From this trail, there are great views of the Shenandoah River.
