This section of the Heritage Trail goes from the Turnpike (or Centre) Trailhead to the Kissing Bridge over Shaker Creek. It is along the historic turnpike. According to the park website, there is not much cell phone service within the park. Download the route prior to arriving to make sure you stay on track. This is a kayaking/canoeing route, not a hiking trail. You can park at a private boat ramp near the town of High Bridge. The cost is around $4 for kayaks and canoes. You can also park at one of the locks, but it's harder to get in and out of the water. The trip starts on the Kentucky River. Paddle past the Shakertown paddle boat, under the high bridge and the mouth of the Dix River will be on your right. The flow isn't very strong, so it's not a very hard paddle, but the scenery is nice....
