This popular jeep road extends from Coal Road/FR 42 to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The road is extremely rocky and can have deep pools of water. The road should only be attempted by those with high clearance four-wheel drive vehicles with experience driving over challenging terrain. There are some good camping spots along the way.

The summit of Scott Mountain is private. Please respect the property owners request and stay on the Appalachian Trail when using this route. This hike starts at Rockfish Gap off the Blue Ridge Parkway and hikes north on the Appalachian Trail to McCormick Gap. To head back to the trailhead, retrace foot steps back to Rockfish Gap.

Each waypoint is a parking area with a day-hike segment to the next waypoint either north or south following the AT. The first two waypoints cover the Dickey Ridge portion of SNP, and aren't technically on the route or the AT, but can be covered if you wish to complete hiking the entire length of SNP.
