Ommetje de Malpie is a beautiful circular walk through the nature reserve. You walk south along the winding river Dommel, famous for the exuberant nature that grows on its banks. The route leads to the Groot Malpeven, the largest body of water in the nature reserve. The walking route introduces you to both the forests and the heathlands of De Malpie. As icing on the cake, you walk past the Venbergse watermill, a mill that was first mentioned in 1227.

From the southern part of Valkenswaard you walk via this route to the village of Soerendonk. You will also come across the beautiful forest called 't Leenderbos, a place where you have the chance to see wild animals such as deer and boar. You can also walk close to the Belgian border where you can find several walking routes, and a visit to Hamont-Achel is also worthwhile.

With this extensive and varied walking route you can explore different nature reserves - the Leenderbos and De Malpie. The route starts at the northern edge of the Malpie, on the river Dommel. The river is like a lifeline for the nature reserve. You start at the monumental watermill in the river Dommel, and you follow the winding river deeper into nature.
