This route to Finlayson summit avoids some of the difficulties that the southern access has such a steep loose gravel or large boulders, which can be particularly tricky when wet. This is still a challenging trail, but could be a safer option.

This trail up to Mount Finlayson is a steady incline the whole way and more on the difficult end of the moderate. Near the top it gets a bit technical, with some minor scrambling over a rock face for which having good shoes is highly recommended. This trail can get quite busy, with the summit offering 360-degree views of the surrounding area.

This trail is quite steep at the beginning but has steps to help with the elevation gain. It quickly levels out for the rest of the way up to the viewpoint. The trail is well kept through quiet wooded areas. The view from the top is spectacular! The viewpoint can also be reached from a trail on the south side.

Mount Finlayson’s loop option is a real stair-master, and is best completed going clockwise if you are hoping to have the easiest route. Navigating the slick rock going down counter-clockwise, especially in slippery conditions, could be dangerous in places. Overall, this is a very nice trail with good views of the Mount Baker and Bear Mountain area, greater Victoria, and the Olympic Peninsula in Washington at the summit. This route begins at the parking lot at the Goldstream Welcome Centre. Here, there is ample parking available and picnic tables. You will pass Niagra Creek and Niagra Falls 1 kilometre in. From there, Old Gold Mine is 1 kilometres distance away. You will continue on your trail and go around Goldstream Campground to reach Goldstream Falls.
