This is a very popular trail and beautiful hike leading up into the glacial cirque known as Hell's Hole in the Mount Evans Wilderness. Traveling along West Chicago Creek, the trail climbs for a mile to a bench above and west of the creek. The trail continues climbing less steeply, through lodgepole forest and into the bristlecone pine trees. The trail ends at timberline in Hell's Hole, in an open meadow at the base of Gray Wolf Mountain. From late fall into late spring this trail makes for...

Starting just over an hour’s drive from Denver, the hike up to Grays Peak and Torreys Peak is a popular way to bag two 14ers in one day. This lollipop loop offers incredible views of the Front Range, as you climb up the Continental Divide. Getting to the trailhead can be a challenge in and of itself. Stevens Gulch Road leads to the trailhead and is very rough, with potholes, washed out sections, and sometimes mud. 4WD with ground clearance is recommended, but 2WD with ground clearance might...

Because the trailhead mapped here must be reached via a dirt road, having a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle to reach your destination is highly recommended. The road up to the trailhead is very rocky. This hike is often modified to include a ridge trail section over to Torreys Peak, or even Mount Edwards if you have enough time.

This "route" is a scramble and should only be attempted by those with previous scrambling experience. It involves class 3 scrambling with exposure. This route takes the northeast ridge up to Torreys Peak (a 14er) and traverses over to Kelso Peak (a 13er). Follow the standard trail for about 1.5miles and cut right and follow the trail to the lower part of the saddle between Kelso and Torreys. Here you will see a mine that has to be climbed over - this is a good place to strap on your helmet....

This is a perfect hike for anyone heading to Grays Peak who wants to do some extra mileage. Grays Peak can be hiked to from a closer trailhead, but this route takes you through some truly gorgeous woodland valley between Kelso Mountain and Ganley Mountain before heading out to your destination. Make sure you have time and energy to do the return trip, however.
