This is a very popular trail and beautiful hike leading up into the glacial cirque known as Hell's Hole in the Mount Evans Wilderness. Traveling along West Chicago Creek, the trail climbs for a mile to a bench above and west of the creek. The trail continues climbing less steeply, through lodgepole forest and into the bristlecone pine trees. This is a perfect hike for anyone heading to Grays Peak who wants to do some extra mileage. Grays Peak can be hiked to from a closer trailhead, but this route takes you through some truly gorgeous woodland valley between Kelso Mountain and Ganley Mountain before heading out to your destination. Make sure you have time and energy to do the return trip, however.
