The Black Hole is a beautiful lake in the middle of a heath. The lake is located in a peat bog. Peat used to be cut here, creating the pit that is now the lake. The black water was soon called the Black Hole in the vernacular. Now the lake provides a special small nature reserve where heaths and forests grow around the water.

Mountain bike route Zuidwolde-West is a route where you are hardly in your saddle. While driving around Zuidwolde, you will encounter sharp curves on narrow paths. Good control is required, and you cannot expect much speed. You alternate between sandy paths and single tracks while you drive through wonderful nature. The route is marked with the green mountain bike sign. You can combine the route with mountain bike route Zuidwolde-East.

With this route you connect the mountain bike routes Zuidwolde-East and Zuidwolde-West into a joint, longer route. The complete route is 30 kilometers. The Zuidwolde-Oost mountain bike route goes through the Steenberger Oosterveld nature reserve. The area has a great variety of heaths and forests. This is therefore a wonderful nature route, over forest and sandy paths. In the woods you ride on challenging single tracks with short turns and steep climbs.
