This loop passes by the picnic area and fields in the Pickall Area of Patapsco Valley State Park. The path then enters into the forest and heads down towards the river. There are several spots to detour off the trail and walk along the banks of the river. This is a lesser trafficked part of the park and a great place to spend a day exploring.

From Dickeyville (declared a historic village 1772), take a paved road and enter the "Dickeyville trail". You'll reach the bridge where the trail meets the "Wetland trail", cross it, and begin the very long "Gwynns Falls Trail" that leads to the Washington Village of Baltimore West (on Highway 1). Please note that the parking at this trailhead is limited. Trail is remnants of old Alberton Road which led to the former mill town of Daniels, MD. The Textile Mill was established in the 1800s and survived until destroyed by flooding in 1972. There are still traces of the former Mill and foundations of Mill worker houses. The route follows the Patapsco River before heading into the forest and making a loop. Some trail junctions are not well marked, so downloading the map ahead of time is recommended to help navigate. There is a small trailhead on Dogwood Road, so an early start is recommended if visiting on the weekend.
