The 17th stage of the Alpine Passes Trail is located entirely in the canton of Valais. This stage has a lot of panorama with an ascent to the Bortelhütte and from Schalbett to the Simplon Pass the path runs on the pass road gallery. This trail is marked with the number 6 on the yellow trail signs and it is very well marked. A fantastic tour from the canton of Valais to Lake Maggiore. It starts in Ried-Brig in the district of Goms and initially leads over the Simplon Pass (2005 m), the highest point of this route. Then it goes on, through the Gondo Gorge and over the Italian border through the Val Divedro to Domodossola. It continues through the Valle d'Ossola, past the Lago di Mergozzo (196 m) to Verbania on the beautiful Lago Maggiore (193 m). The way back is the same way.

A fantastic high-altitude hike in the Rottental starting on the Simplon Pass (2005 m). The path leads along narrow hiking trails through a fantastic mountain landscape to the Bistine Pass (2417 m). Then it continues a bit gentler around the Obrist Alp and past an old Bisse to the Gibidum Pass (2201 m) and on to Giw (1962 m).
