The quarry was established in Red Rocks in the 1800s, the remains of which are still quite evident and interesting to explore. The rocks there are among the largest in the park, and you can still see enormous geometric cuts in the rock face. Once on the east side of the quarry, you have two options for continuing up the hillside — a dirt path with switchbacks, or the steep “miners’ staircase” (cut directly into the rock).
