The quarry was established in Red Rocks in the 1800s, the remains of which are still quite evident and interesting to explore. The rocks there are among the largest in the park, and you can still see enormous geometric cuts in the rock face. Once on the east side of the quarry, you have two options for continuing up the hillside — a dirt path with switchbacks, or the steep “miners’ staircase” (cut directly into the rock). This trail is beautiful, very open with some good incline. There are great views of the Garden of the Gods. If you start on the side of the further parking lot, it’s a steeper route. Downloading the offline map is recommended. Accessibility: There are 4 designated accessible spaces in the paved parking lot off of Ridge Road at the north end of the trail.
