A simple round trip variation of the classic and easy itinerary that from Bellagamba leads to the Open Book with which it shares the route up to the Verginette, where it meets the cross-country track coming from Abetone. From the Verginette the easy slopes of Monte Maiore (1561m) go up almost to the ridge, from where, with a long traverse, it reaches the upper part of the gully that separates the two peaks of the Open Book.

At the Abetone Pass, the two pyramids built on the Tuscan-Modena border in 1777 in memory of the Ximeniana road and Giardini are easily recognizable. The route climbs on a dirt road (loose gravel) which crosses the coniferous forest of Abetone and reaches, after about two kilometers, a stone fountain. This very pleasant route through the Alto Appennino Modenese Regional Park leads up to the ridge on the border between Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. The first ascent is very slow and gradual up to the Feminamorta peak (1878m) passing through Foce a Giovo (1664m). From this point you quickly descend to the starting point, partly on an asphalted road, passing through Lake Piatto.
