Best viewing from the blue-blazed section of the Finger Lakes Trail. 1.2mi round trip. There is a steep, strenuous 500 foot climb. The view of the falls is more distant at most points. When you do come to the viewing areas, you note the height of the falls and the depth of the gorge, which are striking. Open year round, though use extreme caution during winter.

Begin by following Buttermilk Creek into the gorge. The trail crosses West King Road and turns into the Bear Trail eventually reaching the park road. This will lead to the trail looping around Lake Treman. After looping around the lake, follow the park road up to the Rim Trail which heads back to the entrance of the park.

This loop explores the Buttermilk Falls gorge and rim and highlights the most scenic parts of the park. From the parking area, you will first hike into the gorge with Buttermilk Creek running through it. At West King Road, walk across the bridge to the Rim Trail. This will follow above the gorge and head back to the starting point.

This route has gorgeous views of the river and waterfall but water access from these trails is illegal, please remain on the established hiking paths. There are stairs in place in some of the steep areas and some sections are paved. The area can be very busy on the weekends, so an early start is recommended.

This short paved trail goes to the swimming area by the Enfield Lower Falls. There are campsites to the east. Accessibility: There are 6 designated accessible spaces in the large paved parking lot off of Park Road at the east end of the trail. All of them are van-accessible with striped access aisles.
