When you think of hiking in Orange County, you don't usually envision dramatic waterfalls. But during the spring, there are a number of wonderful seasonal waterfalls that are just a hike away. One of the best is Chiquito Falls. This seasonal falls doesn't run all year, so your best bet is to visit during the rainier months. Expect a single-track trail with some creek crossings. There is little shade, so it is a good idea to pack plenty of water and prepare accordingly during warmer months.

Parking for this trail is located directly across from the Ortega Oaks Candy Store in the San Juan Loop parking lot. You will need an Adventure Pass (annual pass or a daily pass per vehicle) in order to park in the lot. The Bear Canyon Loop trailhead begins a few yards west of the candy store. The views from the top are amazing!

The Holy Jim Trail, or Holy Jim Canyon Trail, may be Orange County's most popular family hike despite the washboard road leading to it. A high clearance vehicle is required. Nature was profaned here by the swear words flooding from the mouth of "Cussin' Jim" Smith, or "Holy Jim" as he was renamed by tightlaced government surveyors who mapped the canyon in the early 1900s.
