While the Florida Trail is mostly shaded and travels through a wooded area, the sections on dirt roads are not and users suggest bringing some sun protection. For those who wish to do an out-and-back on the Florida Trail, this is a good section to complete. The trail is mostly dry but can form puddles of standing water during periods of heavy rainfall.

The first couple of miles travels through a shaded forest on singletrack trails. The remaining trail is along soft sand which is exposed to the sun. There are not many views along the trail, however, there are many opportunities to view wildlife and wildflowers.
