The Pic Johannsen trail is a fairly steep uphill hike, and requires good physical effort. The trail has a steady incline with few flat sections and sometimes steeper hills. Be careful where you step as there are exposed roots on the trail, rocks, and mud or snow in the off season. In winter, climbing the trail on snowshoes is demanding but very pleasant. Hikers recommend wearing waterproof shoes and pants in the off-season to stay warm, and hiking poles are beneficial during muddy times.
