This trail follows the Right-of-Way of the former Central Railroad of New Jersey's Lake Hopatcong Railroad from Gordon Road in Wharton, NJ to Minisink Road in Jefferson, NJ. The route was once heavily used to access iron mines and to bring seasonal vacationers from Jersey City to Nolan's Point on Lake Hopatcong. Great hike with beautiful rock outcroppings. Steep ascent, then a pleasurable walk through mossy areas and boulders. Stream crossing; when the water is high, walk upstream a few yards for an easy spot to cross. Beautiful pond at start of hike with benches and a picnic table. Remnants of Morris Canal incline plane, tow path and water turbine along trail.
