This route follows white-blazed trails to the Rice Plantation Levee Trail. Rice Creek was once a rice and indigo plantation. It is now floodplain swamp, flatwoods, and mixed forest. The area is also a key parcel for connecting Etoniah State Forest to the Cross Florida Greenway. The area serves as a wildlife corridor, connecting several large natural areas. This is an easy and flat trail that is well-maintained and travels through a forested area. There are no facilities at the trailhead, but there is a picnic area about halfway through the loop with a covered picnic area and a bathroom. Mud Springs is the spring here with a small swimming and picnic area near the spot it runs into the river.

John's Landing Trail meanders through pine and oak forests, leading to two primitive campsites, John's Landing and Orange Point, both of which offer shaded views of Little Lake George. This trail is included within the Florida Forest Service's Trailwalker Program. There are many opportunities to observe wildlife along the way.

This is the section of the Florida Trail that travels through the Ocala National Forest. Some of the highlights along this route include Grassy Pond, Hopkins Prairie, and Juniper Prairie. There is an abundance of wildlife to observe along the way including black bears, alligators, and snakes during some parts of the year.

The trailhead to this area is conveniently located off the main road at the Salt Springs Campground. This trail is easy, entirely shaded, but may be very overgrown in the summer months. There is a variety of beautiful plant species along the way including a mix of pine, oak, maple, magnolias, and palmetto.
