The trail surface can be very sandy in some sections, which can present a challenging terrain to navigate. Views of the lake are abundant along the way.

This trail follows alongside the creek bed and crosses the creek at .6 miles into the route. There can sometimes be rocks that can be used to cross the creek at low water levels, but higher water levels will make this section impassable. Be sure to bring your insect repellent during the warmer months as there is standing water in the creek bed along this trail.

There is a secondary trailhead for this route starting at the MADD Shelter parking. There is a fee to park at Twin Cove Park. This portion of the hike goes from Twin Cove Park to the MADD Shelter trailhead and back. There are several trailheads along the North Shore Trail, including Rockledge Park, Murrell Park, MADD Shelter, and Twin Coves Park.
