This Klompenpad owes its name to the Grieze Veen ("the gray peat"). The pond, which you pass in the first part of the circular walk, was created about 200 years ago when peat was excavated here during a fuel shortage. Streams lead you through the countryside and forests of Garderen.

Quiet forest walk through the woods of Garderen and the Boeschoterbos. Boeschoten used to be a heathland, which was planted with forest trees at the beginning of the 20th century. Now it is a beautifully varied heath reclamation forest. The forest offers a home to many birds, during walks here you will certainly hear a woodpecker. Red deer also live in the forest.

Segment 12 of the Marskramerpad is a beautiful nature trail over the Appelse Heide and the Appel estate. The Marskramerpad is a long-distance trail (LAW3) that runs across the Netherlands, between Bad Bentheim in Germany and The Hague. The route is entirely dedicated to the medieval peddlers who walked these paths for centuries with their merchandise between the Netherlands and Germany. Loop over the Stroese Heide, a moor field that is part of the Kootwijk forestry. A beautiful area, with distant views and a great variety of heath and forest. A herd of sheep regularly grazes in the fields. There are several burial mounds in the area, some of which you pass on the route. You will also pass the Houtbeekweg, an old stream that has recently been restored and now offers a beautiful living environment for countless birds.
