The Big Tree Trail on Meares Island is an amazing and wild adventure through the rainforest. The sights on this trail are outstanding but be prepared for a tough slog through lots of very muddy sections. There are trees to climb over and under so it can be very slow going. The initial boardwalk section is enough for many to take in the beauty of the island. There are several kayak and guide services available, the most popular of which is the Meares Island Water Taxi.

This short trail provides access down to Tonquin Beach by an easy walk through the Pacific coast rainforests. There is limited parking at the trailhead, but it is so close to Tofino that folks will often walk in from town. The forested portion of the trail is gravel and there is a set of wooden stairs leading down to the beach. This woud be a great spot to catch the sunset from! The trail can be extended for a longer hike to Third Beach, Middle Beach, and beyond. Please stay on public trails...
