A fantastic short and sweet route through Canberra's much-loved Mount Ainslie Nature Reserve, a protected area of wooded country overlooking the city's CBD from its northeast. The route commences from Duffy Street and heads into the forest via undulating trails. There is abundance of birdlife and wildlife in the park so keep your eyes peeled for kangaroos, wallabies, possums, gliders, and koalas roaming around.

The trail itself is a mostly flat fire trail featuring a short but steep incline and some incredible views from the top! This trail is dog friendly and also links into the Canberra Centenary Trail.

The highlight of the trail has to be the views from the top of Mount Ainslie (846m) to the capital city and its surroundings. This trail explores the north face of the mountain and is slightly less popular than the Mount Ainslie trail that summits from the south.

A pleasant walk exploring some of the beautiful bushland reserves in North Canberra. The trail begins from the Mount Ainslie Kellaway Street Carpark. From here you'll make your way through the Mount Ainslie Nature Reserve and around the base of Mount Majura before cutting across to Majura Pines. The trail itself is a mix of fire management roads and walking tracks that are relatively easy to navigate.

This route is a great exercise circuit but is also perfect for bird watchers and for those looking to spot the local wildlife. Mount Ainslie is an important wooded grassland reserve and many animals rely on this specific and declining style of woodland in the Canberra region. There are plenty of other trails to explore in this area if you have the time so don't forget a bottle of water and a snack to eat along...
