After crossing the N381, the route leads through the Aekingerbroek, a nature reserve filled with forests, heaths and fens. Then a tour around the Canadameer and its surrounding forests, and back to Appelscha via the drifting sands of the Aekingerzand.

De Bonghaar is a beautiful part of the Fochloërveen nature reserve. You make a short tour through the peat bogs, one of the last raised bog plains in the Netherlands. The wet areas are a good habitat for snakes and birds. At the end of the walk you can visit the bird hide on the edge of the Brunstingerplas.
