Five trails have been marked out through and around Veenhuizen. The routes introduce you to the village, the history and the nature in the area. Veenhuizen is located on the Fochloërveen nature reserve, and this green marked trail will take you here. The route starts at the impressive Prison Museum and runs past the church in Veenhuizen.

Tour from the village of Veenhuizen through the adjacent nature reserve Fochloërveen. The route runs a lot on long, straight paths and roads through the piece of nature and is therefore an excellent running route. Along the way you enjoy grasslands as well as forests and moors filled with fens. The peat areas are covered with special flowers and plants. Along the way you will pass the information center of the nature reserve.

The Fochloërveen is one of the most extensive nature reserves in the Netherlands. Here you come for peace and quiet and vast expanses of moorland with endless views. The area is particularly popular with bird watchers. You walk along numerous fens of the peat area, and walk through the countryside to the village of Bovensmilde.
