De Jufferen Lunsingh

This is an official walking route of Natuurmonumenten, marked with blue-yellow posts. The walking route leads through the esdorp landscape of Norg. A special nature reserve, filled with birds and mammals. You walk along wetland landscapes with the occasional monumental Saxon farm. The beginning and end of the route runs through the Norgerholt, an ancient forest with great natural history value. Here you also walk around the lake, which was created by cutting peat.

One of the remaining primeval forests of Drenthe is the Norgerholt near Norg. This forest is more than 1,000 years old. Westervelde is located near this primeval forest, two kilometers south of Norg. Nearby is a small dolmen (D2) with originally 4 capstones, two of which could be put back on the supporting stones. A remnant of the third capstone is in the tomb and the fourth is missing. Countryside walk through the fields south of Norg. Walk along wet dirt tracks and quiet country lanes, past many farms, a historic windmill and fields filled with cows and horses. Soon after leaving Norg you walk around the Schipmeer, a beautiful lake in the forest. Then the route mainly runs through the fields, in the spring filled with flowers and grazing cows and horses. Nice loop from Norg, through an alternation of farm fields and forests. You pass a few monumental farms and walk through fields that are filled with flowers in summer. The route runs to the Westerveen. The water in the peat area has a special shape. During the Second World War, the Germans wanted to make an airport here, which failed due to the soggy surface. Now there is a memorial to the British airmen and French paratroopers who died here during the Second World War.

Circular walk from Norg through typical Drenthe natural landscapes. The first part of the route runs through the forest, around the Schipmeer in the middle. The route continues through typical Drenthe farm landscapes, past some beautiful farms and to the edge of the Peestermaden nature reserve.
